4 Mood Boards!?

Our next assignment was the word Surreal. which is really broad for creating a concept, unlike tentacles and robots Surreal literally has given me the freedom to create anything that i want. So i decided to create 4 mood boards showing my thought process towards my idea.

The first mood board is check looking at different surreal works, picking my favorites and annotating why i like them, i went for a different image each time but picking one core thing i like about the image.
With this i decided to look at what kind of art style i wanted to use. I had this idea of creating a surreal image of how I obtain my ideas so I checked out a pixar short called La Luna which has been my main reference for my mood board.

Pixar has been the best in the business for 3D animation since Toy Story and apart of that is due to how they utilize mis-en-scene

I like the soft cartoony look which would work great for my image to create a soft peaceful look to juxtapose my concept. Using my brain as bait whist i fish off the moon in order to generate ideas.

...
Wait what?

To follow up, the idea is to have myself literately fishing ontop of the moon into the earth using my own brain as bait to generate ideas.

It's a visual representation of thinking outside the box.

When it comes down to finding concepts and generating ideas people say that i am the opposite of a "grounded person"
The joke is that I am so un-grounded that I have floated out of this world and ended up on the moon when generating my ideas because they are that bizare (or stupid) (sometimes good).
So i decided to litterely take this joke as the foundation for my concept because that should be surreal enough.

After looking at La Luna and other references in different ways to show the moon I also checked out space art works to see what colors are shown in space.
Because i am going to be literately fishing for ideas, i like the idea for a very cool blue theme of space, to represent the ocean. I'm not going to have myself sitting on the moon like the dream works logo because that's been done to death. I'll upload my sketches as i go along to show the basic concept.

The Finale Aztec Robot

Here's my final aztec robot, its alot more messier then my genie, i tried to play around with some lighting and layers but it just looks too messy to be a final piece which is a shame, this looks more like a final sketch than i finished piece, pluse the "lighting" ruined its look, it doesn't even look very robotic now.. maybe i shouldn't of had it so colorful. Why is color allways letting me down. It doesnt help that the left half was originally intended to be white, but instead i made it blue because it just looked full just grey'd out. (robot crab for scale)

More Robot Aztec Sketches

Here are some more of those robots for that assignment, damn i need to sleep more

Sketches

This drawing is based of the aztec god "Huitzilopochti" It was a quick sketch just playing around with the size and design of the character, i had alot of fun re creating him off of my aztec mood board. My only nip pick is that it isn't very robotic like but regardless it has some potential.
This is the Aztec god tezcatlipoca, i was really looking forward to trying this design out because out of all the gods, he was the most robotic, unfortunately it didn't work in my favour as i found it quite awkward to draw, i don't think it helps that i jumped in the deep end trying to give him a  cool pose instead of a side view front view back viewed image. Despite the roughness and awkwardness i enjoyed sketching him and the idea overall.
This was a quick attempt at redrawing Huitizilopochtli to fit to the page but i gave up because of it just taking too long and i wasn't happy with the shape.
This is the aztec god Tlaloc but as you can see it wasn't as imaginitive as the others, again with the "it doesn't look robotic" which is a shame but the idea would have been a robot but with women legs and feet. If i had more time i would have developped this sketch further. But either way just a basic sketch
Ok enough with the aztec stuff, the first idea was to create a steam punk victorian robot. This guy here is called Chimley and quite simply he is a chimly everyday cleaner robot. Despite his happy face, like victorian boys acidents happen and he breaks alot.
His arms and legs are made of the same material as an acordion so he can stretch his arms and legs, his stomach can come out as a shoe stand so he can polish shows accordingly plus his groin is a wheel thats a mop!
The final sketch here was just playing around with potential victorian robots, i used biro and pencil and genuinly enjoyed the quick look of it.

Aztec Robots?

Along with a steam punk theme another idea was to have an aztec theme. You can argue that  Man created gods and with Man creating machine why not have robot gods... or have robots designed from gods worship humans as gods dun dun dunn.
(yes, that's artistic bullshit talking)

But cutting the chase, the design for aztecs gods look pretty cool and interesting so i thought "hey they would look awesome as 3D robots"... But after a few sketches i'll see what theme i end up going for.

Robot Mood Boards

Steam Punk Mood Board
I started off with a steam punk theme and just created a mood board of a few steam punk bots that caught my eye.
The plan was to create a robot in the Victorian times, so it would have a lot of steam punkish aspects.

I thought a common shoe polish bot would be a good idea, because Robots can't just look "cool" all robots have to have a purpose other wise why were they built?
Different Types of Humanoid Robots
My 2nd Mood board just shows various of Robot types because I'm still unsure if i want to go with the steam punk theme so i decided to make a mood board of various types of robots. Just to have a look at different styles as well. But I'm not going to go for an android/ human robot. I'de rather go for the full 100%

I'm not going to go for a realistic robot from the future nor one that looks really human because that would be boring. Gonnah start some rough sketches and see what i come up with.

Tentacle Genie

This is my tentacle Genie, the premise is simple, rub a magical tentacle sea shell and thus summons the tentacle genie that grants 8 wishes, but be careful, any wish you make will involve a lot of tentacles.
Want to wish to be a billionaire well you'll get tentacles worth a billion pounds :D
